Emachimne 600e from 600mhz to 800mhz!. December 17 2002
One day while search the net i came across a software program that raises the front side bus of your computer in windows.
The name of said software is called CPUFSB
CPUFSB works by manipulating
the clock generator chip of the motherboard. Intrigued by this, i chose an old emachine 600e to test it out. I chose this oem style computer,
because it's impossible to overclock. Opening up the emachine, i located the clock generator and proceeded to jot down the specifics
of the chip. Then searching through the pull down menu in CPUFSB, i tried locating the emachines clock generator. To my surprise the emachine
clock generator was supported!
On to the fun part! In CPUFSB i checked out what FSB speeds i could select. There was 100mhz(standard), 103mhz,
112 mhz, and 133mhz. Playing it safe i tried 103mhz and it overclocked fine to 618mhz. Next i tried 112mhz and
once again i was able to overclock it, this time to 672mhz. And finally i tried 133, which simply crashed.
Contemplating this, i remembered the emachine had 100mhz sdram installed. That was the problem! or so i hoped.
I did a quick swap to some 133mhz sdram, booted up, and started the process again. Fingers crossed, i tried 133 mhz FSB.
It worked! i had overclocked the sucker to 800mhz!
If you have an old generic computer, try CPUFSB out. It just might work for you.
